New Moon and Full Moon Energy

Hi, it’s Keiko.

The Moon has a strong power to attract and because it waxes and wanes on a regular basis, it is the celestial body which allows us to closely feel the rhythm of the Universe.  But did you know that the New Moon and the Full Moon have different energy?

In today’s article I am going to tell you about the basic properties of New Moon and Full Moon energy and the importance of each of them.

The Science behind New Moons and Full Moons

Let’s get started by posing the question, why are there New Moons and Full Moons?

You may think that the New Moon and the Full Moon occur as a result of a phenomenon that only involves the Moon.  However, the reason why we are able to see the different phases of the Moon is because the Moon reflects the light of the Sun.  So it is actually a combination of the position of the Moon relative to the Sun that creates the phenomenon known as New Moons and Full Moons.

Let’s take a look at the diagram above to help us understand the science behind the phases of the Moon.  A New Moon occurs when the Moon and the Sun are on the same side when viewed from the Earth.  So from left to right we have the Earth, the Moon, the Sun.  When a New Moon occurs, the side of the Moon facing the Earth is in total darkness because the light of the Sun is being reflected on the far side of the Moon.  Therefore the New Moon is not visible from Earth.

However, as a rare exception, when the Moon and the Sun overlap during a solar eclipse we are able to see the dark surface of the Moon as it passes in front of the Sun.

On the other hand, a Full Moon occurs when the Earth is sandwiched between the Moon and the Sun.  In this case the order of the three celestial bodies from left to right is the Moon, the Earth, the Sun.  When this happens we are able to see the entire surface of the Moon that is reflecting the light of the Sun.

On rare occasions the Sun’s rays cause the Earth’s shadow to appear on the surface of the Moon, creating a phenomenon known as a Lunar Eclipse.

The Energy of the New Moon and Full Moon

I like to say that the Moon acts as an exclusive agent which helps to connect the Earth to the Universe.  On both the New Moon and the Full Moon, a high quality communication channel opens up between the Earth and the Universe and energy from the Universe is able to pour down to Earth via the New Moon and the Full Moon.

Also the Moon and the Sun are especially important celestial bodies because they are the core of self-power.  As a result, the best times to strengthen your self-power are at the time of the New Moon, when the Moon is reset, and at the time of the Full Moon, when the Moon has waxed to the maximum.

New Moon Energy

When a New Moon occurs, the Moon and the Sun are positioned in the same direction when viewed from the Earth, so on an astrological chart they appear together in the same sign.  (Example: Moon in Aries + Sun in Aries = Aries New Moon)

So if someone has the same Sun sign and Moon sign, it means they were born on the day of the New Moon, or just before or after the New Moon.

What type of Energy does the New Moon have?

In astrology, the Sun represents masculinity, and the Moon represents femininity.  So when the Moon and the Sun overlap on the New Moon male and female become one.  Just as new life is born from male female intercourse, the New Moon has energy to give birth to new things.  If you ‘plant seeds’ or start something new on New Moon days you are more likely to see results.

Also, powerful energy pours into the sign of the New Moon, and that influence remains for approximately two weeks until the arrival of the next Full Moon.  So during that two week period being mindful of the characteristics or traits of the sign of the New Moon is a way to attract the power of that sign to you.

What is ‘Personal New Moon?

I refer to the number of days since the New Moon as ‘Personal New Moon.’  For example, when someone was born four days after the New Moon, the fourth day after every New Moon is known as that person’s ‘Personal New Moon’.  Likewise, if someone was born on a Full Moon day, every time there is a Full Moon it is referred to as that person’s Personal New Moon.  Unlike the regular New Moon, your ‘Personal New Moon’ is a starting point for your very own cycle.  If you are mindful of your ‘Personal New Moon’ every time it comes around you will start to notice gradual rebirth feelings, and experience interesting synchronicity.

Full Moon Energy

The Full Moon occurs when the Moon and the Sun are positioned directly across from one another.  When shown on an astrological chart, the Sun and the Moon appear 180 degrees apart from each other.  (Example: Moon in Virgo + Sun in Pisces = Virgo New Moon)

If the New Moon is considered the best time to ‘plant seeds’, then Full Moon energy is all about ‘harvesting’ and ‘completion.’  Rather than starting something new or wishing for something new, the best way to accelerate attraction is to show your gratitude for all things such as the Moon, the Universe, and the people around you.  Also, once the Full Moon passes the Moon gradually starts to wane, so Full Moons also have the power to release past trauma or anger, emotional scars, and bad habits.

The New Moon and the Full Moon make a pair.  You plant the seeds on the New Moon and give thanks for the harvest on the Full Moon.  Even people who were born with low fortune will find that they are able to completely replace their energy by being mindful of this cycle and getting a fresh charge of energy from each and every New Moon and Full Moon.
